In highschool my favorite genre was "female authored fantasy" because I didn't have the language for it at the time, but that's where I found character driven plots. Now I wonder, how much of that was the industry pushing false gender bias with pseudonyms/initials for femanine hard fantasy authors?

This is character acting advice I first saw in comics as how to avoid "talking head syndrome" - give them something to do! Include at least one panel per page where they are doing something interesting with their hands visible It really stuck with me then, & this is a great reframe of it for novels

I have a lot of years of con experience on every side of the table, and this is very true. There is a divide in the volunteer community between the shows that continue to book these "broken stair" guests vs events that just. Won't. We don't talk to eachother. But these guests bring in $$$$ 😓🫤
