#runchat Stretch more and continue weight training at least twice a week. It helped me a ton last year as I lost 20 pounds and gained a lot of strength in my lower back.
This should be my goal for 2025. I can't diet. I just get mad and break out. But reducing what I eat before a workout and focusing on protein sounds doable. Thanks for posting this. #runchat
(1) Embrace gratitude for enjoying good enough health to lace them up every day and head out the door, (2) make strength training more of a priority - both for improved running and a more fit life in general.
To BE. PATIENT. I love run a marathon, a number of halfs, a sprint tri, etc., but it’s been 12 years. I have to remember that my body has aged, and I don’t heal as quickly as I did then. Warming up, stretching and cooldowns are a main focus now, and it’s helped considerably. #runchat
A4: If you feel like you're having (another) heart episode, call 911 or ask someone to do so. Then, get somewhere warm and lie flat. DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF TO THE ER! I made it safely, but have nightmares about the people I could have killed if I'd passed out. #runchat #takotsubo #cardiacrecovery
Not my smartest move. Completely ego-driven. Didn't want to embarrass myself in front of the running group. Hello? How embarrassing would it have been if I'd died? In all fairness, I wasn't thinking clearly, but still. #stupidity #lessons #happytobealive #grateful
A4: My big ultra last year really got me reevaluating my nutrition/hydration. I felt like I was drinking a lot, barely drank anything. Stomach was full of liquid so it was hard to eat actual food. Definitely need to make some changes.
A4: I learned that you're not always going to get to race day in the best condition, but you can still aim for a goal and enjoy the experience. #RunChat
I haven’t used gels in 3 years! I ran the Waldo 100k race on liquid calories. I was sipping 50mls every 7 minutes. It made for a very long 17hr 50min run. I used the app “Saturday” to get the sugars and salt ratios correct if that’s helpful. Let me know how it goes!
The long run on Skratch alternating with Hammer Perpetuem worked well for battling flavor fatigue. Yeah, it would have been horrible with only 1 flavor.
I will do Honeystinger chews. I will also try again rice balls with sugar & salt &/or savers soy sauce. The rice was easy on my gut. Messy tho.
Ahh when you said liquid you really meant liquid. I thought you were talking gels. I have tried tailwind before. Can’t imagine a whole day on only liquids..
Learned a lot from being injured, not just how to not get injured and how to stay healthy. But I also learned to get joy in small wins and never take for granted being able to train hard

But as I have not run more than 4 hours yet I can’t speak from experience…
The science seems pretty sound and the idea the GI distress is avoided by always having water as part of the sugar hit…
But you mention “long” and wanting solid food in future.
What was the experience like?
What is your new plan?

Great app recommendation, super helpful
