I get the sense we do similar work (SQL and PowerBI) but because of the ethics involved, I wouldn’t use AI unless a superior forced me to. It is a bit amusing to me that your article asks people to apply ethics to their usage of AI when AI takes all other critical thinking out of the equation for

asked them to only do it when they really need it, or under the right circumstances. It’s just not gonna happen. I think the incentives around AI are too perverse to ever get the average person or company to use them with any sort of nuance or morality. But I get that I’m in the minority on AI.

It's funny, because I suspect *I'm* in the minority view here. Most people are lazy and practical and will do whatever they feel is most advantageous or convenient to them, in the same way that people will regularly litter. So I'm likely shouting into the void here.

But I feel the need to say *something*. I answer Power Bi questions regularly on r/powerBI and I see more and more people going to ChatGPT first. As a consultant, I've started to see my customers using it for a first pass.

I feel the need to ask people to avoid the equivalent of drunk driving.

Part of me would love to be an AI purist and avoid the technology entirely. But I'm a Microsoft MVP and MS is slamming it into every single product they make.

So if MS is going to encourage drunk driving, I might as well understand the dangers so I can inform my students and customers.

Oh right, I just meant the degree to which I'm anti-AI is a minority at this point. Didn't mean to imply you're shouting into the void for no reason, I do think it's important to talk about how and why we should use things (even if people will largely ignore it 🙃). It was a good read in any case!

Great post, I love these level of ethical standards we can set for ourselves. I find myself mostly using ChatGPT for formatting queries with example json or doing repetitive tasks

Excelente article. Almost a sidenote: publishing free content is basically feeding the beast, there is little incentive to do it, as you note. I was wondering if hiding content behind a soft barrier like a captcha would be enough to protect it while keeping it easily accessible to humans.

I believe the ones that require clicking a checkbox monitor your mouse movements and may be more resistant? Not sure.
