Why are people not constantly talking about gideon the ninth and the whole locked tomb series? Do people know about this? This is the best shit I've read in ages, the lesbians were right.

Tamsyn Muir also wrote the Spelunky episode of Secret Level. An episode that so primarily concerns itself with the beauty of life, effort, experience, and death... Of course she wrote it!
Excuse me. Is there a way to express and explosion of emotion regarding this series without looking like a lunatic who can't find the capslock? Every book is amazing, I love the characters, it makes me feel things. The next book can't come soon enough...
It looks interesting! Unfortunately, the last time I went to the book store, I accidentally picked up the second book instead of the first. Will try again next week!
I’ve been the spoiled insolent turd at the bookstore each time I see it because my childlike brain equates recommendations online = bad, but if you’re recommending it, I’ll read it.
I'm just sitting here waiting on book four, these are really good. Though, at least in the case of book 2, it was a little hard to understand for me at first. But when you get it, you *get* it
Ive read them all twice in the span of a few months and my god the attention to detail and foreshadowing of reveals is simply unparalleled. I check every day for news on Alecto praying that today will be the day
Loved the first two, but the third left me a bit cold, in part because I didn't know there was going to be a fourth. I hope when we get the fourth, a) it'll really be the end, and b) it'll make the third feel like it was worth the journey.
The first book was a lot of fun, but I found the second book to be a significant let down. I've mostly memory holed it at this point, but I seem to recall the first 75% of the book being of little consequence and then everything meaningful occurring in the last quarter. I didn't read the third.
Yeah the "I have literally no idea what's happening and I'm too afraid to ask" feeling that pervades almost the entire first read is intentional and a Choice. I immediately dove in for a second read when I finished it.
The first book is sort of a mystery too -- that is, the story has a hidden antagonist. However, the events occurring throughout the story all meaningfully advance the story. I felt like I was consistently learning. In book 2, the protagonist has an unreliable PoV. That's harder to engage w/.
"Intended for rereading, but not the first reading" is a weird sort of luxury/indulgence. I have a line of books to read. It's aggressive of an author to expect their audience to read their book twice.
To be clear, i haven't reread it. I have enjoyed my first read a lot regardless. What i'm saying is that it's not an easy book to get into and that it gambles all of it in its finale and mystery and the carrot on the stick is the characters. I don't think the book is "bad until the reread"

Personally, I can't wait for the next book in the series 😀
