Made a Bluesky news thing, it watches the firehose in real-time, and tracks Bluesky link post activity over 24 hours
You can switch between "news" and "all" links
And it has a gravity algorithm where rank decays over time, but likes, reposts, and replies are constantly updated

I'll also be doing some updates so if don't be surprised if it resets a few times if you're using it, and a lot of people do seem to be using it 😱
Consider it alpha, buggy, and unstable...
So that would have to be separated as well
I also track/check links, for labeling of links to disinfo and fascist SM, and to walk the redirection chain in case of obfuscation
Uses a gravity-based scoring algorithm that decays over time, like, reposts, reply, points are weighted
When displaying results, it chooses the single highest-scoring post for each URL, the score shown for that URL is only from the highest-scoring post, not a consolidated score
Lemme know if you want to collab.
I'm going to be trying to make an open source news aggregator, so that we can track news over time.

The list is long 🫠
How do you distinguish "news" from "everything else"? And is a topical, rather than type, approach possible?
Anything is possible
Do you use AI to categorise, and if so how accurate is it? I imagine that following each link to categorise the post would be more accurate, but also more expensive?
I'll be adding additional categories when I can get around to it
Tech will be next
