The absolute best thing about the National Parks are the memories they give you... And how uniquely powerful and fragile those memories are because they are here but can disappear if we don't care for them and revisit them.
From the time we were in First Grade together, a friend has been wildly mesmerized by astronomy & things ... beyond. Although he earned his PhD in philosophy, he has written extensively about the cosmos. Every year, we have a similar conversation about loss of daylight. Last year, he sent this:
The silver lining is I can go watch my sunset, listen for owls and still be home in time for dinner. Having to do this past my bedtime was brutal. π€£π€£
just sitting back waiting for the Alaska Weather Gang to swoop in and correct the time on this with their impressive graphic on how no place in the northern hemisphere is totally dark like this at 4 pm and that even Utqiagvik AK has nautical twilight at 4 pm.
This is so like Chicago right now. I can remember getting on the school bus at 7:15 and getting home at 4:30. I did not see daylight Monday-Friday, except out the classroom window.
