Spending on this scale means inflation, war inflation. And/or cut backs to things like state pension. We know how tolerant pensioners are to delayed increases! I see no popular understanding, which is dangerous, leading to a spiral to extremes

It needs to happen over the next 5 years, while Putin is reconstituting his military. NATO is making clear what gaps need to be filled & the EU is triggering emergency clause for defence spending. Without peace, you can’t have welfare, education or health. Security is the foundation of prosperity.

I stand with Ukraine. But Europe and NATO has leaned on the US for too long. They have more to lose than the US if Russia takes Ukraine.

Time for Europe and NATO to stand on their own.

Sounds about right. Needs lots and lots and lots of drones. Also needs SEAD/DEAD, which is almost entirely a US asset. Problem is, it's lke when covid came, and there was no pasta or bathroom tissue. When everyone wants to buy weapons at the same time, there are no weapons available to buy.
