i have no idea what "identity politics" is, though as an analyst of categories and specifically of what they occlude, seems clear that term is a cipher for "thinking trans people are people."

that's not identity politics, elissa. it's being human, which you don't need a faculty lounge to learn.

it's infuriating. i think their bid to assign blame to uncommitted, trans people, latino/a/x voters, etc. indicates that they care most about power. to me, the conversation should be one-note: how do we fight this administration to protect people from harm? and they aren't doing much of that.

demonizing vulnerable populations as obstructions to an idealized society is exactly how trump ran his campaign. if your lesson from that is "we should find a vulnerable population to blame for our losses," instead of "we need to shore up protections for trans people," you should have a re-think.
