Looks like he might have just been Iohannes even in an Irish context (from DIB: https://www.dib.ie/biography/john-scottus-eriugena-a4287). As a Biblical name I'm not too surprised by that. Rendering of the spelling into something more Irish might have been more common if there were more early Irish-language sources about him.
I don't know of any early vernacular discussions of him. That doesn't mean they don't exist (they'd be outside my areas of expertise on several fronts) but I'd expect them to be mentioned in DIB. I feel like material in Latin often gets discussed in Latin, esp. if circulating outside Ireland.
