Generally speaking, when someone is accused of "Trump derangement syndrome," it's because they are trying to discuss a thing Trump actually did or said.

I feel that here in Canada we are, for a change, about three weeks ahead of the discourse elsewhere. In January we went through the "51st state is just a joke" phase, but in February the threat is being taken seriously by most people.
It reminds me of a certain brand of revisionism that claims e.g. Hitler wasn't antisemitic, he just recognised and played on an existing feeling in the population, as if this is in any way a meaningful distinction. He could annex Ukraine and people would shout you down for taking it literally.
