Aside from Ukraine's benefit, greater design and production means they'll compete far better with American military sales to markets around the world. Especially given that the U.S. can promise deliveries but let politics prevent deliveries. Europe looks relatively more reliable..

I can't be alone in wanting to see Europe usurp America's leadership role in stages. Initially there might have to be some humoring of Trump, some subterfuge, but eventually they can tell him to get lost.

Historically Germany has shown the capability to rearm very quickly (gulp). That aside, Europe has the technical capabilities and wealth to offer an autonomous deterrent. They can also nationalize all of the US forward bases once Trump exits NATO as he most certainly will.

Most countries would not allow a potentially hostile force (trump controlled) to occupy a military strongpoint inside their territory if there is even the slightest chance of a war starting!
