Well yes and no

We had smoked cod roe in our house in the sixties but it was the unadulterated lump of roe (god knows, and I don’t want to know, what organ it consists of) but never the delightful whipped, creamy dip served with charred, fluffy pita bread, so beloved by the eastern Mediterraneans
