I haven't seen anything except Death Threats against the next administration and a few pet posts which are not even funny.
Maybe after I follow more people?
I think it is all about the people you follow. I have seen lots of pet picture(good and bad), in standard viewing I've seen no death threats, no homophobia or other bigoted crap. Mostly I have just found nice, ordinary content which I am happy with.
We've already had a bit of a thing with bots. Thing is you can create a public block list that others can subscribe to, and you can add any bots you encounter to that list. Most bots learn and grow with interaction, suffocate them early.
The block list feature is one of the things that I haven't had to use yet but the fact that it is there makes me feel so much more comfortable that the platform can't be overrun.
It's a very important safeguard. A lot of bullies do what they do to get a reaction out of people. They're empty inside and that's the only way they feel anything. The best way to fight that is to prevent all reactions. Takes the wind right out of their sails.
Especially when it's community driven like that, you essentially create a tornado siren or a fallout shelter. Or a lockdown drill at school. Shut off the lights, and sit under your desk. Make the room look empty.
Block lists need to be curated in some way to be effective, the down side of them is it could become really easy to block huge numbers for trivial reasons.
For me, I am still trying to get used to not wanting to block every other person on the platform 😂
The other place has lost so much ad revenue recently that it is really becoming *that* part of town. It's only a matter of time before they start trying to mess this place up
It think we’ve seen how other places can become if not carefully curated. The other place wanted to be a Town square but got trashed by a maniacal mayor. Hopefully here remains a municipally owned space where all the citizens are respected and give that respect back.
I just never left my followers tab any more, so rarely did I go to posts outside of my core group because as soon as you did it meant dealing with bigots, idiots, evil bots etc. I missed the interaction and fun from wider interactions, just realising how much.
I lost a lot of people I was following over the last year as people left.
Didn't have many turn into a problem but there were a few.
I made the choice a long time ago to unfollow if people were doing/saying things that were causing me issues and I don't regret it. Me and my mental health come first.
I come on here and I am just having fun. I go to the other one and I won't leave followers tab because it is just horrible if I do. It is a night and day difference.
Corpos and billionaires often forget that we want an internet without bots or bot generated content, that we want more human interactions than bot ones, glad that BlueSky is one of the platforms that prioritize lively interactions more
Too right, I don't mind bots on sites, they can provide useful functionality but I don't want to be talking to and dealing with them, pretending to be people and just causing chaos.

Unfortunately that would be the twitter of new but we have a bluer place now.

I would say I can't believe there are enough stupid people falling for them to make it worthwhile but it was twitter so actually checks out 😅
