The entire idea that being exposed to the worst of the other side broadens your horizons is wrong. Like catastrophically wrong.

If your primary exposure to Right of Center folks is Nazis you are not going to gradually become more accepting of deregulation.

IMO Twitter was perfectly fine the way it was until that audience became prominent. BlueSky isn't about broadening horizons, it's about having a safe space to voice your soft and casual takes without being swung at for shit completely different from that.

Social media, and X in particular, has given a platform to normalize bigotry and abuse. There is no value in the discourse from the opposite side on X. Blue Sky might not broaden horizons but at least it doesn’t give a voice to disgusting people.

We tried talking to Trump supporters already. It didn't work, they didn't believe us and we're done. I'm not for an echo chamber even if it's accidentally created by default with those with same view points. However I'm finding nuance is handled better on this site than X.

I agree - meaningful conversations where both sides listen and engage respectfully. I feel have disagreements is part of it and that in it of itself is worthwhile when we truly converse. I also would like BlueSky to provide a means to protect users from said harassment.
