So discouraging the degree to which we're willing to mash the Eject button on new signings as a fan base.
In Calafiori and Merino, Arsenal signed two players for roughly the cost of one Jhon Durán. In Cala, AFC found a new LB for the same fee Maatsen cost (4 PL starts), barely more than Porro.

Opinions are fine, we should all have them and be free to express them. But I personally find the rage a bit weird.
Football discourse (and online discourse generally) is just a weird place.
The lack of appreciation and understanding around what data analysis and scouting goes into a transfer is wild.
“Ok who?”
“That’s not my job”
Well the guys whose job it is didn’t find anyone who fit the bill and met the manager’s ask, lol
As if clubs should be delighted to sell us their best players.
Weird that clubs dont want to sell their best players
Merino cost less than £30m, and at 28 was obviously a bridge signing. He's not the profile many want, but he's the profile the manager wants. And he's done his role.
It’s not his fault he’s being played as striker though because he isn’t one.
These signings are of the same manager who signed Havertz(A Midfielder) from Chelsea and made him CF at AFC!
But Havertz was often played at 9 for Chelsea as well as 10/second striker at Chelsea and for the German NT, not Arteta’s innovation there
The Prem ain’t La Liga. Premier League is the standard in football.
A great player in La Liga is very likely to be just average in the Prem.
As for Havertz failed experiments in those positions, it just goes to show how insane it is for the manger to repeat them
I am guessing in more fortuitous circumstances many who deride him are celebrating his presence.
In his current role the focus on his limitations is exacerbated and negative sentiments are heightened.
That Kai role is a draining role.
Merino has been good
✅ 15 goals + 5 assists this season
✅ 3rd fastest sprint speed in Ligue 1
✅ Pressing machine – fits Arteta’s system perfectly
With his contract expiring soon, this summer is the perfect time to sign him! #Arsenal #AFC #DavidToArsenal #CanMNT 🍁💪
Wait! I think I’ve got it!
Wait. No. If B means blue it doesn’t work.
Damn you, I WILL CRACK THIS CODE, SIR! 🧐
he’s being asked to playing striker in a duct taped fwd group
but thought billy carps midseason review was generally positive on his performance there 🤷♂️
But yeah…. The guy stinks 😂
Calafiori cannot defend! He is the reason why we conceded that WestHam Bowen goal! He was dragging Mazraoui in the box yesterday. That left hand side with him and Trossard was embarrassing!
Tierny is better than Calafiori!
He’s better than Havertz, Merino and nothing.
If you cannot see that then you’re not being real.
I am not saying we would win the league because of him, that is a managerial problem(see Mikel Arteta).
I have a feeling he will prove a few people wrong when the team around him improves
No caveat but that is also a tacit defense of Zinchenko.
immediate impact right?
In that case he hasn't performed up to the mark right? My KPI was whether he would be able to push Partey off the pitch and make Rice as a 6..
He hasn't been able to do that this szn
And the profile stuff, but don't think Arteta is moving on that.
Timber
Vieira
Zinchenko
Raya
Calafiori
Time will tell, but I think right now he's only ahead of Vieira in terms of impact. Might exceed Zinchenko. But I think it's fair to be disappointed so far
