If you want to try to restrain a feral cat to try to scan for a chip you go right ahead ma'am please post the video of how it goes. π©Έ

Canβt they be chipped when neutered? Then you would just have to use a portable scanner.

I mean, it causes me to question if she's ever seen a scan for a chip? The reader has to be *right* next to the place on the animal where the owner tells the vet to look for the chip... never mind doing this an ownerless, struggling beast
Even "restraining" a gentle house pud can be deadly if they really don't want to cooperate!
When he was found, they thought he was a feral and so performed TNR. But he seemed better with humans than other cats, so after some patient fostering, he adopted us!
Itβs hard enough getting a domestic, sweet and kind and loving kitty to sit still while some stranger puts a weird box by their head. Do that with a feral cat? My god.
We have a kitty with a mental PTSD-adjacent issue. She has had occasional snaps where she turns semi-feral for a few minutes and will fight anyone. The last time she attacked me (years ago, now, sheβs getting good treatment) I was βhow do I defend myself without killing her?β
This is BONKERS. I'd say these folks should spend a week working TNR but I wouldn't wish them on the volunteers.
ROFL
LMAO
LMFAO even
Someone has never, ever, seen how violent a cat can decide to get when they think they need to fight for their very life.
The vets are terrified of her. She beat one up and STOLE THE GAUNTLET GLOVE off her arm.
Making noises like a possessed demonic entity all the way home. Just to be let out of the carrier and walk away like nothing happened.
Yeah. Six pounds of fluff will fuck you up. XD
And all of this was While She Was On Gabapentin.
That was pretty much her final trip to the vet just because she refuses to be touched by anyone she doesn't already know.
But, sure, letβs go grabbing up wild-ass cats to scan them for chips!
Cat bites are FUN. I almost lost an arm after trying to untangle my gentle sweetie from the blinds. It swelled to 3x normal size!
2 of my cats have clipped ears. They were feral when caught. Better to neuter, clip, & microchip all in one go than wait to see if theyβd become indoor cats.
My childhood cats both had ear tattoos. But they were barely visible and can't be seen from a distance. It would be the same as looking for a spay scar. Impossible with feral cats.
I had my cat for 20 years. He was feral but was around 8 months old. He bit me a few times at the vet. I still loved him though. They treated my hands at the vet.
Now I just bark. πΉ
But seriously, he never really was a tamed cat.
i've caught five possums before i actually caught the tom i was after
Note that ARL is the largest animal org in the state + city animal control so 1) well funded and 2) incentivized to βtrackβ cats for life.

Well played!
It takes two adults to purrito her in a towel so we can do the back of neck flea gunk.
These people really have no clue.
