I visited the Carlsbad Caverns 37 years ago and it was such a beautiful and very impressive place.
Protecting this place is the right decision. Well done!

You absolutely cannot trust humans in nature. Humans are disrespectful and will not protect it without direction and supervision. This was the right move. Protect our natural resources at all costs. Even if it means shutting them down for 4 years

Headed to Shenandoah National Park today as I live an hour away. Always bring a small trash bag when I hike. I remember the government shut down in 2019 leaving the parks closed but vulnerable. The trash and damage was horrible.

I do a fair amount of hiking in SNP. I always bring a small trash bag to pack out trash. There were things I would not even touch with a hazmat suit.

The Carlsbad Caverns are a very fragile ecosystem and without adequate supervision and controls, they can be in grave danger due to human ignorance or even malice.

I hate to say it but canceling services and halting access to certain area is FAR BETTER than continuing access without adequate funding. The public will perhaps take notice and the areas will be protected for when we get our collective head on straight.
