Informative article ... but, before long those "senior-level employees who actually run the FBI, the intelligence agencies, and the Pentagon day-to-day" could be replaced by Patel, Gabbard, and Hegseth respectively.

The career U.S. government officials who actually run the FBI, the intelligence agencies, and the Pentagon day-to-day have long been reliable partners. Foreign allies are leaning heavily on them now. But this is the very layer of career bureaucracy that Trump is relentlessly attacking.

To protect the intelligence they share with the U.S., allied officials told me they might ask their counterparts to essentially keep it to themselves and not send it higher up the chain. They might also ask their counterparts to read the material at their agency's HQ, and not take hard copies.
