Owners of Australia’s coal power plants say they cannot keep their ageing fossil-fuel electricity generators running long enough for Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to build his planned fleet of nuclear reactors."

It isn't just the economics of coal that is the issue it is the reliability. The older they get the less reliable they are.
Is Dutts planning to offset losses through long term taxpayer subsidies?
What a total con.
All that solar energy coming in and no place to store it.
She stated currently 26% of the coal plant was down for maintenance, with more than 10% of the entire fleet shut down due to mechanical failures.
Read the the paragraph below taken from the article and all I see is a call for the opposition to offer subsidies to keep their power stations running.
It was a one in 10 chance of a small outage.
Half a billion to an energy operator that wants to close the coal fired power station & advised to close the power station.
Earing PS is older than me.
Dutton’s plan is for idiots
No right thinking energy operator supports it, no right thinking Australian supports it
Gina supports it & she didn’t even live here.

Just forgot to lodge the paperwork like when he worked for tourism Australia
There aren't any in SA or Tasmania. WA is the only state where that one new plant has plans to expand to replace the capacity of the two plants retiring soon. Otherwise:
New build coal and gas fired generators, to fill the gap until nuclear comes online.

“I am a journalist
Too old, uncompetitive vs renewables and like all same people they scoff at Dutton’s plan.
Because it is for idiots.
Dutton is an idiot.
We're on the hook to plan them, build them, subsidise their operation, dispose (read - "hide") the waste, water, and to stick the band aids on the coal plants to keep them going
No end to this bloke's communist ideals
The maintenance costs are too high, and the infrastructure is currently too old.
Dutton is an incompetent idiot.

Nuclear should be determined by its own single issue referendum rather than a multi issue election where public wishes are not known.
He said, if nuclear gets up, the public would have to pay, for a very long time.
We still be stumped for the cash to prop em up.
The media's acceptance of his nonsense is almost as bad as the American media's normalisation of Trump.
Comrade Dutton's costings haven't included the cost of keeping coal (and gas) going for another 20 years.
It is 100% certain the 2035 schedule can’t be met, the budget cannot be met, and the scope of 7 reactors cannot be met
Add in that renewable energy production is already close to 40% now
Why even give the lie any air time?
🤷♂️🤣
Howard's battlers, Scomo's quiet Australians are these people. They're not tuned in.
Build new coal / gas plants as "transition" solution.
But there is little point in using logic against it.
When the whole shameless distraction is only intended to flood the zone with shit, deny global heating, and placate The Nationals. #auspol
Geologists
Hydrologists
Demand Planning Experts
Building companies
Reactor suppliers
etc
Dutto has a spreadsheet from a couple of backroom boys.
He knows he cant get this through the Senate so no great effort has been put in to this.
His objective is not to establish a nuclear power industry but to extend the life of coal mines/plants indefinitely.

This whole play has never been about nuclear, just extending the longevity of LNG for the LPA donors.
