In a multi-party system, you need to play nicely with others to get anything done. In a winner-take-all system, you need to win majority power by any means necessary to get anything done.

I think ideally we'd have a system that allowed proportional representation. It exists in other governments and forces elected officials to form alliances and agreements with each other to get things done. The U.S. system is entirely adversarial and winner-takes-all. It sucks.
