Oh, lord, but I don't want to make my cats stay indoors. They stay in our yard, and don't wander. Hoping that's enough. We've emptied all birdbaths of water, taken down all feeders; but not looking forward to keeping the cats indoors.

Contact with bird droppings can be a risk as well, especially from migratory waterfowl. If possible, keep an eye out for outbreaks specific to your area (made difficult by the federal coms shutdown). If your area has an uptick in cases, bring kitties inside (even if it makes them grumpy).

If you can build a catio so they can have a roof to protect from bird droppings, that would be ideal. There’s lots of ideas for inexpensive catio setups

Our resident mink live in outdoor enclosures. They are partially roofed (solid roof) and the rest of the ceiling & outer sides are covered by industrial tarp. The wiring is 1/2" gap, small enough to keep birds out.

We sourced many materials cheap/free on FB marketplace- budget catio 💗
