That is a horrifically painful way to die Jesus we put animals down before they are put thru that. Not suggesting that as an option- just saying medical ethics are dead- they were murdered by Christian nationalists & sociopathic legislators & insurance companies
In Canada , it is covered by our government funded insurance program that ensures every single person in the country assuring access to life-saving care. It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good! Oh, Canada! 🇨🇦
So we are clear. Canada has no "free" Medicare. It is paid for by citizens based on earnings levels and ability in our provincial and federal taxes. We agreed a long time ago that access to medical care is a human right. It is growing to include prescriptions and dental care. Even wealthy contribute
I survived the same illness, had a heart attack, respiratory arrest total kidney failure; 4+ one month in the hospital. Lots of antibiotics I survived.
And I’m not bankrupt just got a kidney transplant also not bankrupt cost to me my taxes.
Why do Americans put up with such an unfair, inhumane health system? And vote for political parties who want to preserve them and reduce even more care?
And this is why I don’t give a damn about open season. What difference is it going to make which one I choose if they all end up the same way doing the same evil things to so many people.
Two things can be true at the same time. Big Corporations are out to make money by any means, and murder is wrong. This event has brought attention to both.
Guess they couldn't have just asked Mayo to bill them for the antibiotics? Or, I guess Mayo didn't have the resources to donate a few IV bags of vancomycin? Never seen anything like this. Doesn't seem plausible. Especially at Mayo. I'm a nurse (retired) in Arizona. My mom goes to Mayo. I call BS.
Why should the patient or their family have to go through that? It should have been treated. The end. The insurance companies need to be regulated because nobody should have to go through that at all.
What I'm saying is I don't believe it happened. As a nurse this story does not make sense to me. Even if the insurance company said "no," Mayo would've still done the right thing. They wouldn't have continued to chop him up. His organs would've failed before that, anyway. Think about it, did the 1/2
insurance pay for amputating his limbs? Why, if they said he was end of life and wouldn't pay for antibiotics? Much cheaper to pay for antibiotics. NONE of it makes sense. 2/2
Asking for med ins co's & hospitals to make sense? The only sense for them is cents, and sometimes not even that. Sometimes they lose a battle bc of a larger picture (eg legal precedents.) Just like why lawyers go after even minor seeming brand infringement (MSFT going after MikeRoeSoft (dot) com)
This is why Luigi Mangione became a folk hero. This is why our broken health care "system" is regarded with horror and derision by the rest of the civilized world.
"yeah, but that's a problem for next quarter. if we deny a buncha nickel & dime meds claims *right now,* we just might hit this quarter's profit projections!" - health ins CEOs, probably
Be very careful what you wish for. Here in Canada we have MAID, Medical Assistance in Dying. Far too many of our disabled population is choosing MAID as they are unable to get the supports they need and deserve.
Meanwhile in Australia, I think 1.5% of our wages go to the Medicare levy where we get 'Free' healthcare. The first $18,000 we earn no levy is taken. Our system works very well
The levy is 2% and does not fully-fund the system, which general taxation is also applied to. But still a good, sustainable and affordable system that provides healthcare to all citizens.
I watched my dad lose a leg two years ago, this is body horror level trauma with a capital t. This could've been prevented but this person lost their partner and had to watch them going through multiple amputations so some rich assholes could get richer.
I worked in healthcare for years and it is sickening, that insurance companies aren’t proactive. People pay over and over and are known as “frequent flyers” only to die at the end of something that never should have killed them if insurance companies were not dictating care.
True. It’s quite ironic that people are handwringing and admonishing people for speaking out in favor of the killer. Yet United Healthcare, by denying life saving treatment to goose profits commits thousands of cases of preventable manslaughter every single year and nobody says a fucking word.
Big corporate has been hoodwinking and gaslighting Americans for decades and we sit there and take it like the good little gullible bastards we are.
Remember it was only 60 years ago Cigarette companies were posting ads saying smoking was good for you.
I am so sorry. My husband was at end stage congestive heart failure and in unbearable pain and couldn't even sleep. They refused him pain meds and sleeping pills because they didn't want him to become "ADDICTED."
Years ago, my aunt jumped out a second story window to escape a serial rapist. She was left in the hospital hall untreated while the hospital and insurance battled. Insurance refused to cover it because she "chose" to jump. Lost her leg.
fuck yeah! healthcare is commie shit…! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I get for only 14.4% of my salary free ambulance rides, any treatment, any medication, when I am sich for more than 6 weeks the insurance pays 60% of my salary until I can work again. Hell yes!
If WE the people would stop voting in the people that get bribed by the insurance companies, MAYBE we could get somewhere. Republicans keep them stupid for a reason,
That is the most under handed act. It must infuriate you, since you have a logical view of the system. You lost your love from the decisions of an administrator who ignores the basic creed of life.
In Canada our system is slow and over extended but life saving measures and drugs don't just get denied while your laid up in hospital. Some drugs might not be covered sure be there's always something that is
That’s a brutal story that’s a brutal brutal infection I suffered from septic shock. That’s how I lost my kidney function. I had a heart attack respiratory arrest. I was hospitalised for four months.
I can't say what I want to say. But I'm also not American. We need more Luigi Mangione's in America, but really we need the American government to recognize this as the true torture and murder. I would be happy if the government themselves ordered the execution of such people that cause this.
And here's what I learned from working for five hot minutes in the insurance industry. Those antibiotics would have cost UHC far far less than all of those surgeries that resulted from the withheld antibiotics.
I loathe corporate greed that damages lives and doesn't even make money in the long run.
My husband worked for a company that fired entire teams every time they finished a project only to hire more people months later. It would have cost less to keep people working than hire and train a new staff.
It's the same as companies refusing to pay highly skilled workers $1 more an hour, when they know it will cost them thousands to hire someone else if they quit. Ultimately, it's not just about greed, but power. If companies start paying insurance claims or higher wages, everyone will expect more.
The reason insurance companies won't pay for you to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled in the same appt is simple: they hope if they only pay for 2, it will be so bad, you won't come back to have the other 2 done. My DOCTOR told me that. He wasn't allowed to do all 4 at once or he wouldn't be paid.
I was 30 when I got mine pulled. At least that was the plan. When I came to the dentist told me he only took 3. Over a decade later my dentist now is like that last one should really come out it’s caused crowding don’t know why he left it. I bet the original dentist billed my insurance in full, too
It used to be they would deny a woman with fibrous breasts a $1200 CT scan on top of the mammo to be safe. Some women developed breast cancer which ended up costing the insurance companies $250K and up.
I'm no expert but I'd guess that amputation costs more than some antibiotics. Frankly the cost of suffering seems more expensive than some antibiotics.
Doctors and hospitals can provide treatment regardless of insurance coverage. They just may not get paid for their services. Hospitals are part of the problem. The jack up prices 1000x over their costs. They get Tylenol free, but they charge $150 or more each one.
GAAP accounting in hospitals is bizarre stuff, granted. But the immediate focus is.not in hospitals; it's in insurance companies. The number of rural hospitals that no longer exist would tend to support i surface reform as a more pressing need than accounting reform.
I am so grateful to live in a country with universal healthcare...I may not need it very often, but at least I have the security of knowing it's there...these Insurance companies are appalling

A massive failure in the US - all the data shows worse outcomes for their citizens even though it is the most expensive and inequitable way of providing health care.
And some people wonder why numerous citizens in the USA celebrated the killing of an insurance company CEO whose company kills thousands of people by withholding health care
Self defence against killers is an accepted plea in courts
In the Early 2000s, I worked for UHC and they would single out elderly people or people that were going to lose their insurance and hold their treatment up on a technicality. Once it was resolved the execs would say, we'll despite the problem being resolved, they're no longer insured with us.
Our health sytem takes excellent care of us. No-one is declined medical help, no matter at what stage the illness may be or your age. An antibiotics prescription here is 5€.
Also a Brit and that was my first thought - given the depravity of the insurance industry and the enormous number of guns in the US, I'm honestly surprised this hadn't happened before

Sad, scary, infuriating.
But the stories are just.. bewilderingly traumatic.
How has only one “Health Insurance” CEO been killed?
There’s no way Trump will do anything to fix this.
Evil
Please donate the cost of a co-pay to Luigi's defense fund.
Send a message to the ruling class that we will fight to exanerate those that defend us.

It's unbelievably shameful.
Japan is a very capitalist country, yet we have public healthcare.
This is tripple-dipping-middleman-care.

Just look up “neuromarketing” (it’s term of the trade, taught at leading business universitues worldwide)
Fuck UHC! 💙
Hey, UHC's CEO is a start...
Now, let's make sure whomever gets charged, gets freed.
1 down...

It makes me sick that Thompson was shot to death. It also makes me sick that the shooter ruined his young life trying to correct a wrong.
Congress needs to fix this.

I've had sepsis... and I know how shit it feels...
Fortunately I was in New Zealand and the hospital treated me professionally, and I survived.
As a Canadian I was just baffled.
America!! You HAVE death panels - your insurance companies are literally telling doctors what treatment you can and cannot get.
In ‘socialized’ systems, your doctor decides.

I know of no reason the CEO’s treason should ever be forgot.
No wonder so many Americans were CHEERING a CEO's death...
This is no way to run "healthcare"...
Unless "SOMEONE", makes MILLIONS of DOLLARS off the suffering of others!
and patriotically a mean for American populace to enjoy a carnage massacre, with handwritten autographs "9/11" on the bombs dropped
Without any link to Al-Qaeda
That's being AMERICAN
