Imagine for a moment, being that Cashier and scanning items in upwards of the total being 4, 5 maybe more hundred of dollars for luxury items.
Your entire shift cruelly reminding you that YOU CAN'T AFFORD ANY OF IT!!!!
A sad and sobering reality.
No!!??
My sister when 16 had extensive cancer therapy in the UK and the family got no bill. I had major heart surgery here in Vancouver BC 10 years ago and the only bill was parking charges when the family visited. Why Americans endure their cruel system is beyond me.
Because we have ALWAYS been a cruel people. Look at our history. There were never “good old days.” We are utterly apathetic to the well being of others, enjoy the miseries of our groups, and this is STILL the best we have ever been.
I am old and remember how cruel and nasty the majority were to anyone they thought different in the late 50's and 60's. Blacks, hippies, gays, women all suffered abuse and harassment on a regular basis. I often had insults yelled at me because they didn't like my hair! Just wish I still had hair!
Salaries above $170,000/yr should pay FICA tax on every dollar they earn, not just the first $170,000. What that means for many Americans is that if you earn under this amount, you pay FICA on every dollar you earn. High income earners are exempt from paying FICA on every dollar above the limit.
Social Security is alive. The Congress has been stealing (borrowing) from it for decades. The problem is that they don't have the money to pay it back. If they'd stop stealing it for their beloved Defense Department and Tax cuts for corporations the money would be there for everyone.
Speak up! I mean, I don't necessarily want you to lose it, but, as you said, you "never thought it was right."
Or, maybe find a candidate who supports your viewpoint and start a grassroots organization... perhaps with a chunk of the extra amount?
I did. I advocated for lifting the cap. That was over a decade ago. I have been involuntarily retired due to a work injury for a long time. Now, I would be making over $200K/yr and getting fatter checks for probably the last several months.
It is messed up that a person who makes $50,000 a year, who is likely struggling to pay all of their bills get taxed on every dollar they make, but a person making $470,000 pays no FICA on $300,000 of their income. No one gives a shit about the people making less than $99,000 a year - not GOP or Dem
Why shouldn't they pay more? If I owe a tiny little house on a tiny lot, I would pay "less" property tax than a person living in a 10,000 sq ft home on a 1 acre lot.

Whoever hesitates in answering this, do us all a favor and end yourself now. You aren’t even worth the corpse you’ll leave behind.

Never thought it was right that my last 3 or so paychecks were a lot fatter because I met the FICA cap.
Just didn't seem right.

That's what I would do,
if I could!
