one of the organizations I now work for (The Institute For Local Self Reliance) got some love from the Associated Press for their efforts to help tribal communities build their own broadband networks

a researcher I used to work with helped design a solar powered device to help bring internet to remote rural villages in India (where his family is from). I wonder if he's still on the project now....
