Using hydrogen for heating is INCREDIBLY wasteful. Other technologies like heat pumps offer a far more efficient and affordable alternative.

Because heat pumps are affordable around the world, and there is no point in developing a hydrogen ecosystem that deals with fossil fuels comprehensively? Novel solutions like heat pumps will *easily* lead to global decarbonisation within a few years, amirite? Only £1000 extra per year (cost incl.)

That's a very conservative efficiency rating for a heat pump. Mine does over 450%

Except when it's really cold, and the efficiency plummets to a one-bar electric heater, and everyone else has a one-bar electric heater, and so they use back up (electric) heat, and the grid is crippled because there aren't enough gas power plants, and it feels like you live in America.

Source is a hydrogen lobbyists group? Hydrogen for house warming is one of the dumbest ideas ever. You'll need a really huge amount of electricity to produce that!

Here in The Netherlands we don't have cold winters anymore. On the average only 3 day with all-day frost. A day colder than -10 C is extremely rare (last time was in 1987). COP=2.77 @ -10 C, producing water of 35 C. No worries. A lot of heat pumps in Scandinavian countries, never heard of problems.
