One of the many things I love about Rick Steves is he’s spent a lifetime building social capital across the political spectrum but when it came time to take a stand, he hasn’t hesitated to spend that social capital regardless of what it might cost him personally.

There is no courage or integrity found in “standing in the middle” when one side is supporting a fascist regime hellbent on hurting as many people as possible.
You can't be half in. If your group is guilty , you are coconspiring by fencesitting your way through

There are protests. Random people on the trains, etc will ask directly what happened. Honestly, it would be negligent for him not to mention it.
This time, though, it’s different. One-on-one, there’s not as much curiosity about the U.S., there’s more disbelief and disappointment. If you’re on a sheltered tour you may not notice. But Rick’s travelers do.
Was pleasantly surprised to see him take a stand against fascism and even point out the parallels between Nazi Germany and America.
Mad respect for Rick. 😎
