This is the fundamental stylistic issue at the heart of the MCU, The Dark Knight, etc. Outside of a genre deconstruction like Watchmen, an “objective” POV defeats the purpose of a superhero film. (These posts were prompted by another street-level hero making a less-than-spectacular return this week)

I think it’s homophobia, if im being honest, that the dark knight realism thing became the prevailing aesthetic for superhero movies. Part of the reason the Batman is the best one we’ve gotten in a decade or so is that rpats Bruce straight up looks metrosexual/fruity/whatever you want to call it.

It’s a fear of camp, which in and of itself is a fear of queerness. I still remember the main criticism of Batman movies pre-Nolan was that they were “too gay” and “not cool enough”
