TIL: Chinese 茗 míng 'tea' is possibly of Austroasiatic origin, cf. Palaung မျံမ် miəm 'tea'. The word is also borrowed into Kradai languages, cf. Thai เมี่ยง [mia̯ŋ˥˩] ' fermented leaves of wild tea plants'.
