I've never pre-ordered a game console before, but I'm going to TRY to do so for Switch 2. If I'm not able to get an online "ship-to-me" pre-order, how does Gamestop (or Best Buy/whatever) in-store preorder work? Basically, will they reserve one for me to pick up whenever, or do they sell out of them on a first-come first-serve basis on release date? I'd rather NOT do midnight release shenanigans since I've got little kids.

I signed up for email notifications at all retailers I could think of so I guess I'll find out! If they sell Switch 2 via Costco's site, that'd be ideal (it's pretty scalper-proof since you have to be a paying member and it's limited per customer)! Also I love Costco.

All the Nintendo handhelds currently in my possession. Ya might say I'm a fan of these little guys! On a related note, my Wii is still plugged into my TV and still gets used semi-regularly.

Hey, I work at GameStop! I haven’t seen a midnight release for anything except COD in the last lil bit I’ve worked here, but we hold things for up to 48 hours past release date if preordered. Also ~most of the time~ we manage to get calls out to all the people preordering.

Ya might be right! I just read lots of conflicting things about previous console releases (some having to put $50-100 down on a preorder and then finalize the order/pay the rest on release day and get a number and wait in line) but not sure if that'll be the case this time around?

Probably safest to call wherever you choose, but I think you'll be good to go with a pick-up whenever you want.

I believe they still do midnight releases (they did one for Tears of the Kingdom!) but they aren’t gonna make you pick it up at midnight. I think they keep you covered for like 3 days.

When Pokémon Scarlet/Violet came out, they were planning a midnight release but we got hit with a blizzard at like 8 pm on Thursday and I had to wait til Monday to get mine, and I had no problems. Console might be a stricter window, but they aren’t gonna make you come in at 12 if you have a preorder

Now, if you *do* want certain stuff at midnight, they have a whole hoop jumping thing where you have to go in sometimes a few hours before to pay in full, and sign in to get a ticket designating your place in line. That way, they know how many people to expect and can get everyone out fast.

This is why I usually just get everything delivered. With seizures, I ain't taking multiple Uber trips, or bumming rides, etc.
