Yes, and it's not uncommon for Deaf people to not read/write English very well either, for various reasons, but especially because Sign Language in general has a completely different syntax than English - like you said. This has led to Deaf people being perceived as "dumb" for their broken English

there are so many sign languages too. like the finland-swedish D/deaf community had their own dialect kind of go so extinct that finnish families who speak swedish as their first language will move to sweden and use sweden’s swedish sign language so their kids can get support

Y'know ngl I was one of the people who thought sign language interpretation was redundant with CC but hearing it explained like that is incredibly illuminating. I gotta learn ASL sometime.
