what makes me terribly sad about AI cultists is that when it comes to art the work is sort of the point. There can be beauty in practice, purpose in method, happiness found in the pursuit of mastery

I played the bloody trombone basically every day for 8 years and at the end I was still godawful. truly lamentable. but I enjoyed the music, so it was worthwhile simply to strive
It's kind of why I love the Eden Project in Cornwall. It's a big clay pit into which simply staggering amounts of human thought, love, effort, ingenuity, and teamwork have been poured, and the result is beautiful in a way that goes beyond "pretty plants".
That’s true for the consumption of that art too. Whenever I read something I’m very conscious of the work that has gone into it and marvel at how good another human being can be at such a skill. That’s where AI slop fails and always will. It’s the ultra processed food of the art world.
I am different kind of Ai cultist, but can't deny appeal of getting graphics you need for your projects easily. It's such waste of time doodling trash sketches, when I need to focus on other things like creating lore for my religion. When your primary goal isn't being painter painting is pain.
to be honest I think having respect for your own craft, which you clearly do, means having respect for that of other people as well, and to me that means abstaining from tools that disrespect us all as humans
But that doodling isn’t a waste of time, it’s part of the process and the art form. It gets you deeper into the mindset and knowledge of the world you’re trying to create - and even if you do waste time, so what? What’s the rush. Shouldn’t you be enjoying it?
