Very good. However I have lost faith that Trump voting Americans will recognize that he has caused their woes. They'll believe in his lies that it's someone else's fault.
People thought something similar in 2016 when we lost the referendum - Leavers would see they were wrong when they saw the consequences of Brexit. This is wishful thinking.
Ignorant people don’t connect choices with consequences. They don’t change their minds or admit mistakes.
That’s true: but nevertheless a clear majority (55%) of voters believed that Brexit was a mistake in a poll taken before the inauguration of Trump. I wonder what the figure is now?
I read that most of the shift (from 48% Remain to around 55%) is because young remainders are replacing aged, dead leavers on the electoral roll. A shockingly low percentage of Leavers have recognised or would admit they were wrong/misled.
It is an improvement, but 7% is not a huge improvement in 8 years of economic pain, and it’s sadly not even predominantly due to people changing their minds. I find 55% a disappointingly slow gain.
People hate to recognise they are wrong, especially old farts. But we don’t actually need a massive swing for it to translate into a strong rejection of Brexit. And as the new generation’s votes replace the votes of dead Brexiters, it will make a difference.
He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, raised by a father involved with the mafia, and has gone through bankruptcy 6 times. His business model is based on stiffing small businesses and municipalities. American banks quit loaning him money, so he went to Russia. America's biggest con man.
At least we had a democratic escape mechanism when Truss went rogue with the economy.
Trump is destroying the economy & democracy on the basis of social media highs, & no one sane seems able to stop him. Even the courts are being ousted from democratic processes.
Terrifying times.
I'd highly recommend this video, @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social. Gillian Tett from the Financial Times breaks down the clear objectives of the Trump administration, which closely align with the Mar-a-Lago Accord. Well worth a watch! 👇 https://youtu.be/3PXVrLH4zSU?si=XLFzWuDa-jDS3wJ7
“But eventually, Americans will be able to see with their own eyes and in their own lives what Trump has done to the US and the wider world. Their daily experience will expose him for what he is: a confidence trickster who has made them poorer and less safe. The only question is when.”
This article generously attributes the destructive, chaotic rampage of the Trump/Musk regime to ignorance, ineptitude, hubris and what Zelenskyy called the White House’s disinformation bubble.
Very interesting article - thank you. The concern is that Trump never seems to suffer the consequences that would afflict any other politician pursuing a damaging and dangerous path.
Will the people who re-elected him ever escape from their delusions?
Yet a lot of voters are in that disinformation bubble too and so inclined to blame the usual suspects before they admit they were wrong. In the UK, yes support for brexit is now low (leavers either deny they voted for it or change the conversation). Yet that doesn’t stop Reform from being a threat.

I’d hope Trump will speed it up, but we’ll see. Cautious optimism.
He can't hold it together.

But what if it’s actually deliberate?
