I had to explain to managers at work that I will probably be unable to attend GenCon for the next several years, between the TSA crackdowns and the federal prohibition against transgender bathroom access (affecting airports).

If I can be blunt, the whole “I’ll go with you” movement from 2017 or so was always more about cis ally cookies than trans people’s feelings. No one wants to ask someone to take them to the bathroom like a toddler.
There are some productive things you CAN do, though…
-Step in if you see a confrontation or hear a cis person making transphobic comments.
-If a trans friend goes, get up and go with them like you would w/ any other friend.
One thing I do, and will continue to do, is follow ANY MAGA-hatted person going into a public restroom.
I try to keep my eye on things happening around me.
I don’t mess with MAGAs or anything when I follow them in. I just wash my hands and linger and make sure they don’t start something while they’re in there. Then I follow them out.
And yes, as a cis woman I have done this in both men’s and women’s restrooms! 😂
GenCon being cold and in a state turned red is a big deterrent for me going.
