1. Bring maybe 3 decks, max
2. Bring a refillable water bottle
3. Bring snacks to avoid overspending on mediocre con food
4. WEAR GOOD SHOES
5. If youβre with a group, divide and conquer getting stuff signed by artists
6. Get outside at least once a day to get some fresh air and recharge
7. Bring your own Sharpie if you want things signed (cosplayers and creatives don't always have one handy)
8. Plan for walking time
9. Bring a comfy backpack/bag with extra space
10. Wear a mask. Con crud sucks, and that helps mitigate it.
I had my5 with me each day in Amsterdam. It was fine. A full size quiver houses 5 iirc, and i regularly take 7 to fnm. I have a really good bag and was a miniatures gamer for years so 5 is a cinch. I definutely advocate people knowing their own limit.
Plan at least one event, plan your dinners, but donβt schedule your entire weekend. Youβll be disappointed and wonβt get to half of them. Some of the best things that happen at MagicCons arenβt planned.
Apply the Rachel Weeks 4 deck rule. You don't need more than 6 at most.
Don't book yourself heavily in advance. You can play all day without extra events.
Get to popular artists early Ddy 1. Alyanna Danner signings in Amsterdam filled up FAST.
Game Knights live rocks. Get there early too.
Sorry to just drop this here but we're desperate.
Really sorry.
Can anyone please help me share my fundraiser or even contribute IF you can spare it? I don't have the reach to make anything happen but I HAVE to get my family somewhere safer. please. https://gofund.me/dc81cd08
- Protein bars instead of con food
- refillable water bottle
- wet ones for a face & neck refresh halfway through the day
- chapstick for these cons specifically, Chicago in winter and Vegas in summer is crazyyy
- events take more time than you think, plan accordingly
- you need five edh decks max
MagicCons often have a few quiet rooms (IIRC, they had these in Philadelphia and Chicago) and they were super useful as someone who can often feel a bit overwhelmed, recommend scoping around if you can!
Theres a couple of good ones to update our list; but the biggest ones for me was empty deck boxes to store new cards & ear plugs to reduce the over stimulation a few percent π
Well if you are diet soda addicts like us, you plan on taking 2 2liters of $1 soda. Because paying around $6 for a 20 oz is no fucking way. We use refillable water bottles, rotate water and soda. But we also do Disney so we are used to carrying stuff.
Accept the fact you aren't going to tick every single thing you want to do at a MagicCon (this includes meeting and connecting with folks), and that's okay! These things are often a blur and there's always another time. It's very easy to over-extend and feel disappointed, but you shouldn't.
Take your time. Don't rush.
Be excited but don't panic.
Creators are people just like you.
Eat breakfast or some form of it.
Respect personal space.
Take a lot of photos.
In addition to all of the other great advice, if Day One is a workday, and you know you want to buy certain stuff or see certain artists, try and get that done then. Lines will be generally shorter and stuff still in stock.

The thing is decks can get heavy, and if you have too many plus things you get at the Con for the day... it adds up faster than you think.
11. AN EMPTY DECK BOX FOR SPARE CARDS
In general err on the side of less, would be my advice. But you are correct, everyone has different limits.
2. DRINK water
3. Playing isn't always the best use of time; enjoy what the vibes bring you.

6 hours of sleep
1 shower
1 meal not at the convention center
Figure it the things you want to see and do but be flexible if something comes up part minute
Carry as few decks as you think is reasonable, they are heavier than you think by the end of the day
Are you buying extra stuff? How are you going to carry it all day?
