While it's important to keep the soul of storytelling intact, what if you have an expansive story to tell and can't get past executive dysfunction enough to put it to paper? I think there's a way to do this correctly and tell stories that would otherwise die in the minds their creators.

I recently read a piece which posited that billionaires pushing AI are trying to make something “alive” that doesn’t require caring for an actual living thing, which is disturbing on so many levels (use of water, dismissal of care, etc.). I can’t stop thinking that they want the world less-alive.

Yep, lots of tech being developed is clearly aiming to replace humans. In some cases, yay - heavy labor, monotonous labor, dangerous jobs, etc - but they're failing to find a way to support the ppl who lose jobs. & in too many cases are trying to replace joyful parts of creativity w tech.

And for FWIW, I’m not anti-AI. Like, AI is really good at identifying skin cancer — great! That doesn’t replace a dermatologist but would probably improve survival rates. Let’s do more of THAT.

Absolutely! Using AI as a tool to do some tasks way faster/more accurate/safer than humans can, yay. Having robots to do my dishes, yay. Replacing human interaction w robots, taking the human experience out of art, leaving ppl w/out work & no Universal Basic Income - all very very boo.

I feel the same. As I was at a library conference outwardly learning more about AI, inside my heart was breaking at what I viewed as the death of creativity.
