Bush gets a lot of hate for being a 2nd tier grunge band with nonsense lyrics, and while both of those things are true the sound on their first two records is absolutely perfect and people who disagree are dead inside no I am not taking questions

I am a sucker for sixteen stone as it was more a part of my formative years, and it's one of the best examples of the grungy, warm & muddy guitar tone. Even so, the Albini-produced Razorblade Suitcase is like pantheon level guitar tone and it doesn't get enough love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FIBPKRV3kk
the drums are just so punchy and violent too. I don't return to it nearly as much as the first record but when I do I am in awe of the production, it just *sounds* so good.
not too proud to note that while I'm almost comically straight, 90's gavin rossdale is maybe responsible for at least half a point up on the kinsey scale lol. shout out to my friend who got a perm one time to look like him, we were probably a little too mean about it 😂
glycerine always tugs at my heart strings and I don't have a damn clue what it's really about. a testament to the music, yes, but also the lyrics that allow for interpretation and don't actively ruin it.
When I saw the first clause of this, "Bush gets a lot of hate", my brain first read this as a political post. But then I read on and imagined a 2nd tier grunge band of 1990's through 2000's ex-presidents managed by a rumpled, chain-smoking William F. Buckley, and it all kind of made sense then.
He's a pure rock himbo. Absolutely nothing to chew on lyrically, just looks, vibes and really catchy songs. Not a fan (of Rossdale) myself, but Pete Yorn is in the same category and I can listen to him all day.
