At the same time my wife's mother was a schoolgirl being held in a Japanese internment camp in Hong Kong.
Apart from a few people who get either profit or glory from it, war is bad for the vast majority of people.

People knew it was coming. The Buddhist temple in the farm town had many gold items. A white woman told them to bring the gold to her basement, it would be safe. When returned from the concentration camp, she told them to come get their belongings. She kept them safe from Gov. smelters.

My mother, siblings, her parents and extended family were in Amache. All the kids were born in CA. She was 13 at the time and is now 96. She wrote a memoir about her experience. We will donate so that this can never happen again. Thank you for your lifelong advocacy and courage.

Donated! I placed a stamp next to the name of my grandfather, Matoshi Nakashima who was incarcerated at Honouliuli Camp in Oahu in the Ireicho book. I also selected Taketa Oshiro's name to stamp and found he was deported from Peru and imprisoned in Kenedy, Texas. Never forget such things happened!

Do you realize most people I've talked to have no idea the U.S. rounded up Japanese American citizens & held them in camps during the war? It was never taught in my history classes. I just spent most of my days in the library. Amazing what you learn.
