It is most disturbing news for these prison camps to even be around vibes and especially to be around vibes for friggin innocent people at that...like my god...we are not going places with Trump doing ridiculous things...
The people who are being deported are Criminals who entered this country ILLEGALLY. They had their due process and were found guilty of breaking federal immigration law and must now go back to their nation of origin. Why should I care about what happens to them after they are deported?
Thanks for the clarification. I conclude that this is another point in time that just because Godwin’s law @mnemonic.bsky.social exists, calling that thing in El Salvador a concentration camp is very much applicable.
Maybe so, but everybody reads it as a deterrent to calling out fascism, and in the present moment it's getting trotted out to say don't call concentration camps concentration camps.
Absolutely. I've had this conversation with fellow Jews who are justifiably very sensitive to Holocaust comparisons. But it's not like we're calling them "death camps." Nobody is implying that there are gas chambers and crematoria. (Yet.) "Concentration camp" is the appropriate language.
America, especially the GOP, needs to decide what sort of USA they want to live in and pass to future generations. And they have to choose now - while they still have a choice.
What traitor Trump is basically saying is: "I have the right to pick you up and throw you to a swamp full of alligators. Nothing I can do after that, because it's the alligators who make the rules in the swamp."
When you visit the camp museums you see the triangles worn by the prisoners to identify why they were arrested. That’s all they were to the Nazis: triangles, not people. It’s happening all over again.
They may think they can do what they like now, just like those did then.
But, once it's all over all they may gain is the dignity of suicide rather than execution.
I have done a lot of reading on concentration camps and have never seen any scholarly work to suggest that Canada invented concentration camps. Do you have any suggested reading?
You can find a lot of information on it in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission reports, and in pretty much any Indigenous authored text. They were "Residential Schools" here; however, in the 1930's the Nazi party came over to tour the facilities, and called them "inspiring." I believe...
The term concentration camp was coined by the Spanish during the Ten Years War in Cuba in the 1860s, but concentration camps have existed for 100 years before that. Sorry, Canada did not invent the concentration camp.
... it was Indigenous Peoples in the 21st Century v4 (Friederes) that references this specifically. Super quick history: my people were disappeared to these schools starting @ 3yo (independently, no parents,) genders were separated, our identity was erased, and if we didn't like it, tidy just...
...killed us. The number of children and youth murdered, died via misadventure trying to escape, and trafficked into slavery and marriage may never be known. I'm a legacy of this system, and man, looking around right now makes me fucking shiver.
Take good care while reading these. I'm an intergenerational survivor, and I work with direct survivors. Let's let's just say that the Nazis learned torture and experimentation from somewhere, and these aren't easy reads. 💔
I vomited routinely while training in the field. You've been warned.
I'm sure they're happy with it. Trump implied his next plan is to start trafficking "home grown" criminals. So America will finally get back in the business of slavery...exporting this time.
I am begging international leaders--sane ones who believe in human rights--
Please call us (the United States) out for human rights abuses as you would any other nation terrorizing and harming the people who are living within its borders.
No one can be surprised that it is happening now - again.
Guantanamo Bay is exactly this and there are still detainees there.
America has been sleepwalking into this for decades
Yep. The line has been crossed. The checks and balances should keep hold of our Constitution. But it is also part of our responsibility as citizens to make sure the Constitution is upheld when no one else is left to do it for us. It’s go time for our elected officials and judicial system.
If it's the responsibility of citizens to uphold the #constitution why in the f*ck are we paying for Supreme Court judges, or any other #judges for that matter?? They are all appointed by politicians so by default they are all prejudiced in one way or another. You wonder why #America is fuked up??
The responsibility falls on us when the checks and balances fail…it shouldn’t rest solely on us. But I think a lot of in comfortable times forget that citizenship is not just a privilege, but a responsibility. And THAT is why the U.S. is so messed up.
Checks and balances is long gone. The administration is openly ignoring judges and their judgements.
The time to act is now. From now on it will be worse and worse and resistance will be harder and harder.
But a rushed resistance is a failed one. I think the protests are a good start. People need to be organizing in their communities and I see a lot of that happening. We need to steer people away from fear and inspire them to stand up. That’s how we build a strong resistance.
True. But it needs strong singns of resistence, because there are people in many institutions like military and stuff and when the time to decide for a side will come, it needs a strong feeling inside them, to be aware to stand on the wrong side.
Otherwise, they will just "follow orders"
Concentration camps simply began as camps for concentrating large numbers of troops between campaigns, Farley Mowat used the word that way when the Canadian army helped push the Allies in Italy north to Naples, in his book And No Birds Sang, he refers to the troops tenting in concentration camps.

Only one country learned and moved forward, and it wasn't us.
the people who are doing this know what happened. and they want to do it again. they want to finish what others had started.
these are people who proudly proclaim 'hitler was right'.

And so far the average American goes "meh".
History tells us where this ends.
But, once it's all over all they may gain is the dignity of suicide rather than execution.
Canada. We invented it. Sorry.
We all know who the most prolific users of them were.
Look at our countries today. We teach our past and *really* commit to never again.
Join us now, not emulate us then.
I vomited routinely while training in the field. You've been warned.
But maybe the point of no return, were to solve this problem without violence, is long gone...
I don't see a peaceful future for the US anymore.
