You can still use a tennis ball if is you pull in front first. When the ball touches your windshield you know you are far enough in where you can shut the garage door.
You can use one in that situation, too. I have one bc I can’t accurately gauge the length of my Prius, so kept having to get back in and pull it a few inches forward.
But, at least for me, winter is the only time I back in, since backing out in snow with a low-clearance car is no bueno.
I totally get this, I have a 'low rent Prius', ie a Hyundai Ioniq. I love the hybrid mileage, love the way it drives, absolutely hate the low clearance.
I don’t mind the low clearance until I’m driving over perpetually-higher washboards on my way to the farm, the aforementioned snow, or 93% of highways around me that have spaced-out road bumps making me thing I’ve got a flat tire.
I always back in for safety. I know the environment when I arrive. But when I come out of the garage in the morning, I don't wanna back over a dachshund or an elder in my blind spots.
