I question some aspects of Amish- their limits on education primarily. But there are some modern inventions- VR, AI, crypto currency and self driving cars- I have no interest in partaking in. I can see how people would form a religion just to reject technology.
I thought that they weren't anti-new technology but just desire a level of adoption much, much lower than what advertisers convinced the rest of us to adopt, especially if the technology might threaten community bonds. Like, the village has one phone but not a phone in every house.
i don’t. puppy mills, abused women & children & votes (yes, they vote) for yamtits. they’re no different from any other closed religious group, cute woodwork & gift shops notwithstanding.
The Amish do use new technology. They just believe in being separate from the corruption of the outside world and restrict what can enter their communal lives. For instance some communities use small solar cells to charge batteries for portable lights.
