I don't want to minimize the scope of the tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic, but I don't think it really sank in for most voters. Thanks, in large part, to the Biden administration's quick action, the actual economic downturn related to the pandemic was relatively short.

Trump 1 never came close to this level of insanity. No American presidency has. We're in unprecedented territory, and I expect that when the consequences start to hit on a widespread scale, we will see a backlash--both domestically and globally--the likes of which we've never seen.

If Reform were to get in, it would end the UK - Scotland, and likely Wales, would go independent at the first given opportunity. I support Scottish independence but I really don't want the reason for it to be a fascist party in power getting in next door - or as part of the UK.

Oddly enough, this isn't quite what happened. The CPC was averaging 42% in polls throughout 2024, and is still at 40% now. It's that everyone else consolidated around the LPC.

It's not just conservatism. Many conservatives loathe Trump. Had the Canadian Conservatives elevated a more statesman-like leader, it could have been different. Ford had no trouble retaining his support because he never descended into the "Canada sucks" rhetoric of the soulless Poilievre.
