Absolutely why I'm such a huge reader and have been all my life. My parents both read enough that for birthdays/parents' days/holidays I'd buy them books... then steal them back to read later. Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Brian Lumley, I can't even remember them all.

I read with my kiddos every day! I read to them, they to me, and they catch me reading my own books, we listen to audiobooks together! It not only encourages them but also fulfills me in inexplicable ways!

Buy your kids books even if they dont seem interested in reading, my parents had no idea i would be such an avid reader until i started reading my sisters copy of the goblet of fire. Cant know if its not there to try.

You can also listen to books together. During a drive, cooking, creating, or working with your hands. As a dyslexic, it is the only way I can “read”. In the right circumstance, it becomes an open invitation for everyone around to submerge in a tale or an adventure.

Mine have to read every day as part of their homework and now that they don't need my help with meanings and pronunciations so much, all three of us sit in our lounge reading our own books. Reading for twenty minutes soon turns into an hour as we share parts that have triggered us in particular.

Years ago my daughter was struggling to read and I read out loud to her every evening. We went through a few fantasy series. I would stop at strategic places, suggesting she could read ahead. It was the Alanna books by Tamora Pierce that did it. From 1st grade to 7th grade level w/one series.

Of my 60 high school English students, only 6 of them said anyone ever read to them at home. So…I have read aloud to them The Metamorphosis, Lord of the Flies, Macbeth, and Brave New World. They thought it weird at 1st but have gotten into it. Model the behavior so they’ll duplicate it as their own!

Miss Campbell read us 12 year olds 'The Pit and the Pendulum' in sections, and we'd get the next bit at the end of next class if we behaved. That was 1968 and I've never forgotten it.

When I read to my students I think of my college lit professor who read part of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee aloud to us. I don’t remember the teacher’s name but I remember the passion in his voice as he read it, and I still have my copy I bought for the class.

I used to read to my kids when they were little. At some point they learned to detect when I was really engrossed in a good book and would inevitably interrupt. The trend continues to this day! It was worth it though. At 19 and 16 years old they're better and more active readers than most adults.

When mine beg to take their phones up I deny with very strong conviction. They try to wear me down and when they ask to read, I act as if I gave up the fight and allow them 10min reading time. Which I obviously don't check up on.

My son calls me crazy every day when he sees me reading... I used to say the same at his age. Waiting for his moment. We all have that book that lights us up. For me, it was Captain Alatriste by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. What was yours? #reading
