This could all be settled if Sam Altman and the rest of the billionaires developing LLMs just pay for the content they have stolen. They could put it into an account in Switzerland which pays the content creators each time an AI crawls their stuff. How about a dollar a word?
No, it couldn’t. That wouldn’t give creators a choice in whether their work was used or not. Stealing and then pay dues doesn’t work.

Yes, I agree. We need a new copyright treaty in the light of the Great AI Theft, one that protects creators' rights and for subsequent uses. My proposal was to make good creators for past theft and kick-start talks about a new copyright regime. Visual artists included.

The EU has actually put out a new taxation on different items sold within the EU to recover some of the money lost. My partner pointed me to it recently. I haven’t looked completely into it yet, but it’s interesting to say the least.
