Technology has always cut both ways, but along the way we have found some ways to significantly improve quality of life. Tech is definitely in a rut and trying to be 'innovative' is just not yielding the same positive benefits. GenAI has a very inverted pareto distribution.

The bright side of GenAI I guess is that we're building some really extensive infrastructure for and driving down the costs of scientific computing projects in fields like biotechnology that could actually meaningfully improve things, VCs are just obsessively focused on chatbots right now.

I don't think it's all downside either, just the hype of GenAI is bad, load bearing duct tape at best. Their is power in some of the post cleanup data synthesis, but it's a dead end as an artistic tool.
