I did a survey of engineering students (about 25% women in the faculty), I had a group work question where they selected all the roles that applied for them... (Sorry about my horrible colour choices for the pink).

This was an interesting read for me. In my small bubble, the students weren't an issue (other than that many were desperate to find a girlfriend and thus behaving a little awkward around me at times). My young-ish co-workers are fine, too. Only some men above 50 have been a problem.

I also TA'd by the way. Had to grade code in any programming language the students felt like using. That was quite the experience. 😅

We had about 10 % female CS students at the time and often none at all in the groups I taught. I majored in math, maybe that made a difference.

Yeah, we didn't have techbro types. The CS guys were mostly the quiet introverted types. The vibes were more like "female devs are special, let's be on our best behavior".

I will always remember the old CS professor who addressed us in the German equivalent of "Gentlemen! ... and dear Lady!" (suggesting a slight bow) - I was the only non-male being in his lecture. 😂

Obviously, this is worlds away from gender equality. But they meant well and were kind. 🙂 (I won't go into detail regarding certain nasty old guys. I think we've all met some of them.)
