The article fails to acknowledge how far behind the rest of the world the US's NHTSA safety ratings are. Standards not updated in years, 80% of cars get five stars. It's fairly meaningless that the Cybertruck has that rating

I can't believe self driving cars are being tested on public streets. I have a relative who was a test driver at GM, & GM has test grounds the size of a mock city with all road hazards & conditions. They aren't testing their cars on the public. How's Tesla doing it???

I've been in and walked / cycled near Waymo vehicles and my experience was that they are safer drivers than the average uber driver (a low bar, I know, but still a useful comparison).

Issue is there's no consistent testing standard for all autonomous vehicles.
