Oh, wow, great pick. Love these movies, especially Perfect Blue. It's like two really interesting films about people cracking under pressure applied by people they trusted.
Thanks! I agree. The horror is more acute when you realize itβs being done to you by someone you know and trusted. Perfect Blue leaves you with more questions than answers, but Hereditary is very conclusive in its ending, which feels like a good balance
That theme is very much core to Ari Aster as a filmmaker. Less so for Kon perhaps, but it's in Actress and Godfathers to an extent then comes back to the fore in Paranoia Agent in such a devastating way, that iirc even features a line like "excuse me, who are you?"
