Sometimes places the Europeans named "New this-or-that" are located in the weirdest parts of the world. For instance, "New Ireland" is a state in Papua New Guinea.

I was watching some videos about the Punic Wars back in ancient times, and even then they were calling places new, like a Carthaginian colony in the Iberian peninsula was called New Carthage, which seems particularly wild to me because it’s not even that far from the old Carthage
