If your child is at a school with a policy like this, you need to move heaven and earth to eliminate it. It's almost fractal in its wrongness. It's educational malpractice.

this is some bullshit. my rule as a child (who was reading full books by age 4) was that I had to read 3 non-fiction books to EARN a fiction book.

it wasn't great and 30+ years later I still resent non-fiction even though I really enjoy learning.
