It's a brutal time for young men, and to be raising one. The primary message they now is get is "YOU'RE BAD" without any meaningful attempt to offer healthy pathways beyond "Don't be a boy."

I have raised three young men and not one of them has fallen for that grifting crap, not even the one who did MMA. It may be less easy for young men than it may have been (arguable maybe but they aren't conscripts so big plus) but is it harder for boys than it is for anybody else?

A lot of well meaning, arguing in good faith, people have managed to convince themselves that young men have it tough.

At the same time, some of the worst fuckers you’ll come across are exploiting this sort of nebulous notion of men suffering that might seem right if you don’t interrogate it.

Absolutely fucked how men, particularly white men, are given a pass on EVERYTHING.

Last time I checked we're still not getting equal pay, women are still the main victims of violence, the climate emergency hits women harder and care work is still massively undervalued.

If culture won't demand that boys don't need to interrogate their ideas, beliefs and actions and instead believe they can get away with being impulsive or gathering in groups which reinforce bad beliefs and behaviours then hormones may do what hormones are gonna do. The study demonstrates that.

I will add to your point and say what he’s describing is my childhood as a millennial. Yeah we’ve regressed a bit in the last few years but I feel like my son still has a much easier path to grow into a sensitive, empathetic adult than I did

I agree with people's broader points about a lack of community for young people and social media etc having an impact on the way we all interact but I've yet to see any research that backs up any of these problems making things much tougher for young men than young women specifically
